Lets face it, Virginia is steeped in history and the Roanoke Valley has much to see and do. Whether you are a history buff or not you should experience Virginia's heritage and travel the road of early settlement from the valleys through the mountains of western Virginia. This is the season for enjoying the outdoors in Roanoke. Fresh air and gorgeous colors make it a perfect experience.

The Roanoke Valley of Virginia has loads of creatively themed trails throughout the Blue Ridge Mountains.  There are trails that unlock the history of the region such as Crossroads to Settlement, Hunter’s Raid Civil War Trail, and Wilderness Road. Still there are others that explore the unique music and artistic treasures of the Roanoke Valley, Arts along Virginia’s 460. There are even trails for driving, walking and even paddling.

Rock and Relax At the Music and Dance Festival

The 25th annual Rockbridge Mountain Music & Dance Festival, on Friday & Saturday, September 9th & 10th, is not your usual festival. It is just simple fun and there’s plenty of room! Looking for something to do in Roanoke, VA next weekend? This is it.

Musician Mike Seeger began this festival and it's being continued by committed, music-loving area residents. Held the weekend after Labor Day, this music festival closes out the summer season in Roanoke.

It takes place in beautiful Glen Maury Park in Buena Vista, Virginia, situated beside the Blue Ridge Parkway and five miles east of Lexington. Though the festival starts officially on Friday, some folks like to extend their trip and arrive earlier.  The park is always open for camping, and you may arrive any time.

If you  love a relaxed setting and dancing and old-time music Rockbridge is the festival for you. There’s plenty to do, or sit around the campfire and relax, listen and look at the magnificent views of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Get out of your apartment in Roanoke, VA, escape the hustle and bustle, and enjoy the outdoors with great music and friends.
